Day-by-Day Itinerary: 4-Day Zadar & Plitvice Lakes Tour
Afternoon:
Arrive at Zadar Airport, where your private driver will meet you and take you to your hotel in the city center. After checking in and settling down, the rest of the afternoon is free.
Evening:
Head into Zadar's old town and walk along the waterfront. Continue towards the western end of the peninsula to see the Greeting to the Sun installation and the famous Sea Organ. The area is particularly pleasant around sunset, when locals and visitors gather along the Riva.
For dinner, consider trying one of the local konobas in the old town. Dalmatian specialties such as grilled fish, seafood and crni rižot (black risotto) are good choices if you want to try some regional cuisine.
Overnight: Zadar
After breakfast, meet your local guide for a walking tour of Zadar's historic center.
Begin at the Roman Forum, one of the most important archaeological sites in the city. From here, continue to St. Donatus Church, one of Zadar's best-preserved examples of pre-Romanesque architecture, and St. Anastasia Cathedral.
Your guide will also introduce you to the history of the old town and some of the buildings and streets that have shaped Zadar over the centuries.
Afternoon:
The afternoon is free for you to explore at your own pace. You can climb the cathedral bell tower for a view over the old town and the Adriatic, sit at one of the cafés around the main square, or simply walk through the smaller streets of the peninsula.
Another option is a short ride across the harbor with one of Zadar's traditional Barkajoli, the local boatmen who have been carrying passengers between the two sides of the harbor for generations.
Evening:
Enjoy a relaxed evening in Zadar. If you'd like to try a local specialty, look for Maraschino, the cherry liqueur traditionally associated with the city.
Overnight: Zadar
After an early breakfast, leave Zadar for Plitvice Lakes National Park. The journey takes you inland, away from the Adriatic coast and into the wooded landscape of central Croatia.
Plitvice is known for its 16 interconnected lakes, waterfalls and wooden walking paths. An early arrival gives you more time in the park before the busiest part of the day.
Afternoon:
Follow the park's marked trails through the forest and along the lakes. Depending on the route and conditions, the visit includes an electric boat crossing on Lake Kozjak, one of the largest lakes in the park.
There will also be time for lunch, with local options including grilled meat, trout and other Croatian dishes.
After the visit, return to Zadar and arrive at your hotel in the late afternoon or early evening.
